A Blog To Share My Tour of College Football

Miami, OH University

Miami, OH belltower My wife and I went to Cincinnati, OH, for the Country Living Fair in Morrow, OH, which is outside of Cincinnati. We stayed in the city of Blue Ash, OH, which is a very nice little town. So, we went to the Fair on Friday, spent the night in Blue Ash, then on Saturday we visited some area things that my wife wanted to visit. After that, we were off to Oxford, OH, to watch Miami, OH Redhawks play the Syracuse Orange in a non-conference MAC afternoon football game.

The weekend was “Family Weekend.” The campus was beautiful! We drove downtown and eventually made our way to the stadium. We crossed this bridge, parked, and walked to the stadium where we bought two 50-yard line tickets from a student on the entrance. We were so scared that the tickets were fraud that he walked us to the entrance until we got into the stadium. Once we got in, we were still worried. But, we found our seats and we were surprised. The seats had backs! I mean we were sitting in great 50-yard line seats! When we walked in, the scoreboard had some past football players and coaches on it. When I came home, I saw some information about some “greats” that came out of Miami, OH. The only person I knew was Ben Roethlisberger, who played quarterback there and now plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers. In writing this, I found this on Wikipedia [grant it, I don’t trust that source all the time]:

  • Ben Roethlisberger, the current quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers
  • Ara Parseghian, a former Notre Dame football coach
  • Milt Stegall, the current all time touchdown leader in the CFL, Weeb Ewbank
  • Former New York Jets football coach, Paul Brown, the founder of the former Cleveland Browns and Cincinnati Bengals
  • Charlie Leibrandt, a Major League Baseball pitcher
  • Ron Harper, a former NBA basketball player
  • Wally Szczerbiak, a basketball player for the Seattle Sonics
  • Ira Newble, a basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers
  • Hockey players Kevyn Adams, Andy Greene, Brian Savage, Dan Boyle
  • Bo Schembechler, a former Miami and University of Michigan football coach

The game against Syracuse was a good game. Miami, OH, ended up winning the game. Miami won 17-14 over Syracuse. We were a part of the 16,800 people in Yager Stadium that watch Miami really dominating the game by rushing 286 yards to Syracuse’s 66. Syracuse did out pass Miami in yardage (236-150), but that was basically due to Syracuse having to play “catch up” to Miami. It was a pretty good non-conference game, especially for Miami.
